Who and what is La Palma Holland
Jaap van Dijk founded La Palma Holland in 1994, after 20 years of work as a sales manager of Coberco/Borculo, a Dutch manufacturer of whey derivates like lactose. His decades of experience gave him new ideas with respect to the sale of lactose. He envisioned a process that would be faster, more personal and geared seamlessly to the wishes of the client. And more fun, because of the possibility of working together with customers. These ideas became the mission statement of his new company.
Ton Borra took over the reins in 1999. Borra, who has a master's degree in chemistry, spent years working at the management level for multinationals such as Unilever and Akzo.
What's in a name?
Jaap van Dijk named the company La Palma in honour of his mother-in-law, Doña Rosita, the owner of La Palma , a successful shop at the edge of a large plaza in Chía , Colombia . Her establishment was known far and wide for its delicious yoghurt.
Today, La Palma goes beyond this tribute to Doña Rosita, however. There is that dream of passing far-distant retirement years in hammocks strung between palm trees. Calm and relaxed, a cool drink within reach and, just this once, no milk in the picture!
